Our web site is currently under construction. We are making an effort to keep you up-to-date with the organisation's activities before the new interactive hip-hop resource site is launched.

The Faculty of Hiphop's radio show is currently negotiating its on-air slot on the radio and, although its future format is currently uncertain, the show is by no means finished!

The Faculty of Hiphop is now working under the banner of the newly formed company "Hip Hop Education South Africa" (t/a The Faculty of Hiphop), incorporated under s21 of the Companies Act.  It has also parnered with the international organisation, Baobabconnections.

The organisation strives to use the powerful medium of hiphop culture as a tool for youth upliftment and promoting sustainable development in various communities. The medium is channelled through a range of projects hosted by the organisation in fulfilling its aims.

HHESA’s vision is to be a leader and forerunner in the field of promoting social awareness through expressive media in South Africa and also to have an influence internationally.

The Faculty of Hiphop will be hosting a tribute to the late Mr. F.A.T. on the first anniversary of his death on the 28th of November 2009 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Mr. F.A.T. is one of the co-founders of the Faculty of Hiphop when it began in 2003.

The tribute will be part of a 100 hour music marathon that one of the Faculty of Hiphop's directors is doing in partnership with Conscious Flowz (USA), an NPO with which the Faculty has worked with on projects in the past.

The tribute will feature performances by Cape Town performing artists who want to honour Mr. F.A.T.'s legacy and outstanding contributions to social justice, the arts and music and will start at 6:30pm.

After the great success of the pilot film festival at the Joseph Stone Auditorium, the Faculty has increased it's vision for this year's festival.  This year, the Faculty of Hiphop's Youth Film Festival will be tied in with the Black Soil Festival in Rotterdam (hosted by Africanhiphop).  A director of the Faculty will also be flying to Holland to take part in the festival there.

The Faculty's event in Cape Town will take place at Kensington High School (cnr. Sunderland & 8th Ave) on 4 December 2008.   DJ Ready D will be guest speaker and DJ at the event.

The fourth G.H.E.T.T.O. Bootleg is finalised and will be launched in early 2009.  This edition will include a tribute to Mr. F.A.T. as well as the usual content of up-and-coming and established local hip-hop artists.  The Faculty of Hiphop is also planning a special edition 2CD bootleg.

For those who are unfamiliar with the bootleg series, the CDs contain tracks submitted by various artists to be compiled into a 'bootleg' that may be copied and distributed informally and sold at a low cost in order to spread hip-hop with a positive message rather than make money from CD sales.  The bootlegs serve to promote positive hip-hop as well as individual artists who are given exposure that they may not otherwise have had.

The Faculty was a part of the successful concert this year (held at Artscape) which is now also set to be a part of the 2009 Grahamstown Festival.
